Mary Walker Foundation Needlework Weekend @ The Fisher Theatre

Bungay has a long history in the production of decorative textiles with Mary Walker a leading light in more recent times. The large embroidery celebrating Bungay life is a fixture in the library and the embroideries in St. Mary’s church, depicting life in Bungay through the ages, all made by the sewing group Mary led, are a must-see when visiting the church.
Mary Walker sadly died in 2022 at age 88, and a new foundation has been set up in her memory to continue celebrating needlework in Bungay with a fundraising weekend planned for the 8th and 9th March at the Fisher Theatre.
Friday 8th March 7.30pm: Film – The Nettle Dress (Tickets £8)
After the death of his beloved wife, artist Allan Brown spends seven years weaving a hand spun dress from stinging nettles. A modern-day fairytale, showing the healing power of slow craft.
Saturday 9th March 7.30pm: Talk – From Fabulous Fabrics to Fantasy Frocks (Tickets £12 inc. drink and small memento)
An informal evening led by Frances Betts – retired costume maker – about the ups and downs of making costumes for theatre, film and tv.
Thursday 7th March: Exhibition: Mary Walker: A Legacy (Free)
A celebration of the creation of of textile art inspired by the legacy of Mary Walker.
The exhibition runs from the 7th March to 2nd April in the Gallery.
