The Lucy Robertson Walker Make a Difference Award honours the memory of Lucy Walker who was such a tour de force when she landed in Bungay.  Lucy sadly died a couple of years ago and this award is sponsored by her father to recognise the people who, like Lucy, make a positive difference to Bungay.

The judges look at the nominations to consider who:

  • Contributed to the ‘feelgood’ factor in Bungay in any way?
  • Made any aspect of Bungay a more welcoming place?
  • Increased awareness of Bungay?
  • Contributed to Bungay’s local economy in any way?
  • Worked in any way to improve Bungay’s community spirit?
  • Served as a role model and source of inspiration in the community?

Nominations for the 2025  Lucy Robertson Walker Make a Difference Award will open towards the end of the year.

This Award honours the memory of Lucy Walker who really ‘made a difference’ in her short time in the town and her selfless and compassionate approach gained her the respect and love of all who knew her.  It is administered by an independent team of people who worked with Lucy on many of the projects Lucy was passionate about.

Our congratulations to Pete Sewell (Pete the Baker) for helping breathe new life into the Thursday markets, posting positive messages about Bungay’s thriving independent shops by visiting and playing and singing, for encouraging music-making in Bungay, for wassailing the apple trees and, not least, creating the wonderful Bungay Folk Festival.  And to William Drew-Batty for his work in encouraging music-making, enabling anyone who loves to sing to do so through the wonderful choirs he runs, through creating new music for Bungay events, including the Folk Festival and the Black Shuck Festival, and, not least, for making music (and poetry) accessible to all through the Thursday lunchtime concerts at St. Mary’s church.
