Heritage Open Days in Bungay

For the first time, Bungay will be taking part in the nationwide Heritage Open Day event. The theme this year is “Creativity Unwrapped” and all events have been organised by Bungay Town Council.
Four events take place over the weekend of the 9th & 10th September:
Build a collage to represent Bungay’s history

Build a collage of Bungay’s history
The historic town council chamber will be filled with silhouettes of Bungay’s rich and diverse history. Materials will be provided for visitors to make collages.
The museum will also be open for visitors to see artifacts associated with Bungay’s history

Bungay Unwrapped
The Visitors Centre, (Bigod’s Kitchen) Castle Orchard, Bungay, Suffolk, NR35 1DD
Meet Roger Bigod and listen to his role in the signing of the Magna Carta and building Bungay castle. There will be a display of the weapons Roger used to defeat his enemies and a cooking pot to sample the food the army marched on.
Come and meet Roger Bigod in this interactive live display of the clothes, weapons and freshly prepared food which were available at the time Roger built Bungay Castle. Make your own tabard and dress of the period.

The embroidery and bells of St Mary’s
St. Marys, St. Marys Street, Bungay, Suffolk, NR35 1AX
Displays of the magnificent embroideries created by The Community of All Hallows with a chance to see the ringing chamber and ring one of the tower bells
This is a chance to see the rarely exhibited magnificent embroideries created by the sisters belonging to the All Hallows Embroidery School. Their work can, also, be found in Ottawa and Truro Cathedrals.
There will be a chance to ring one of the church bells in the ringing chamber. The chamber is not usually available for the public to visit.
Both of the above are a unique chance to visit St Mary’s and see something special.

Visit Fisher Theatre
Bungay Arts & Theatre Society, 10 Broad Street, Bungay, Suffolk, NR35 1EE
Visit the backstage of the historic Fisher Theatre
Unique opportunity to see the behind-the-scenes workings of this historic theatre. The gallery will have a display of art by Vinnie Nylon a British street art and graffiti artist.
