Alfred Munnings – Making a Picture, St. Mary’s Church

May 17 @ 10:00 am - May 26 @ 4:00 pm

This is a portrait titled Daniel Tomkins and his Dog which was one of the first commissions that Mendham born Alfred Munnings received in 1898, when he was 20,
Shortly after this he suffered a terrible accident.-when out for a walk with some dogs, he lifted a puppy over a hurdle on a field. A thorn sprung and struck him in his right eye, blinding it for life. A frightening disability at the onset of his career, but he didn’t allow it to interfere with his progress and he went on to be one of the countries greatest artists
