David Fisher and his Norfolk and Suffolk Company of Comedians

September 22 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Join historian Ivan Bunn in a fascinating talk about the extraordinary life and times of theatrical entrepreneur, Norwich-born David Fisher, within the LAST survivor of his 13 Fisher Theatres

In the early 18th century Norwich born David Fisher established his touring Company of Comedians in Norfolk and Suffolk. During that time he erected 13 theatres, that at Bungay now being the sole survivor. In this fascinating illustrated talk, using much contemporary material, historian Ivan Bunn will explore the life and times of this extraordinary and talented theatrical entrepreneur. Pre and post the talk will give the opportunity to view archaeological finds unearthed during the theatre’s renovation in 1996-2006 including a priceless, hand-painted proscenium banner and the atmospheric cellar space complete with a replicate Georgian “audience” in the original pit. Visitors may also find David Fisher himself, taking some light refreshment in the bar…
